Building a Website

I’ve never considered myself a “techie” kind of person. Give me trees and saltwater over a screen any day.

In the past, I’ve bemoaned how the internet and social media have taken over Communications making it so that Comms Professionals like me can’t just focus on words but also have to understand Search Engine Optimization, social media advertising, and the like. Just let me do the writing, I’d rage inwardly as I googled “how to make Wordpress show image captions” for the umpteenth time.

But then I met Gina Siciliano.

Gina is an incredible artist and writer who needed a website built. Her powerful graphic novel, I Know What I Am: The Life and Times of Artemesia Gentileschi, was receiving well-deserved attention but Gina is a self-described “true luddite” with zero digitial presence. Eventually, her publisher grew tired of fielding speaking engagement inquiries and interview requests and insisted Gina create her own website to handle the flow of admirers.

And what a treat that she came to me!

My “non-tech” outlook proved to be a great resource, allowing me to help design and build something simple and long-lasting that would require minimal upkeep and be easy for Gina to learn and maintain herself.

We were on a tight time-frame, but I sure do love to work to a hard deadline! I’m proud to say we created something functional and beautiful and on time.

I hope you’ll check out Gina’s Website and purchase her book while you’re there. The story of Artemesia Gentileschi is intense and it’s a travesty more people do not know her name. And Gina’s artistry throughout the book is beautiful and captivating beyond words.
